Task assigned was to design a sustainable foot court facility in a high density urban context along Jalan Sultan, near to Petaling Street, Malaysia. The building can only have a sub-basement parking and must consist of a food court, fast food restaurant, an ethnic restaurant and a fine dining restaurant.
Site is located along a main road that has heavy vehicular traffic. 5mins away from the site is the famous Petaling Street ( China Town ) which has heavy pedestrian traffic. The challenge here was to create a design that was responsive to the most optimal traffic flow and circulation within that urban environment.

Since most of the customers will be coming from Petaling Street, my concept was to design a building that mimicked the circulation flow of Petaling Street. This will create an easy, familiar, relate-able environment that the customers will recognize after coming from Petaling Street. As for sustainability, this building is completely naturally ventilated, all the public spaces in the building are constructed using half-walls, so this creates inlets and outlets throughout the entire building and screened from sunlight using multiple timber fins which also act as a facade treatment. The interior of the building is installed with lots of plants, this creates a more pleasant atmosphere as well help reduce the overall heat the building.

We are releasing a link to our Issuu publication for a more detailed portfolio which will be coming soon.
